Now this is real music! Jenny (Janita)
Haan is credited on the original album sleeve as 'vocal power' and that's
an accurate description. She belts out the songs incredibly powerfully
and her voice never seems to even approach the limits of her range. The
rest of the band are accomplished and solid musicians. Something that they
are obviously proud of since the sleeve notes announce that the cover of
the Frank Zappa 'King Kong' is done in one take with no overdubs.
They are:
Dave Hewitt on bass and vocals
Dick Powell on drums and percussion
Dave Punshon on electric piano and piano
Alan Shacklock on guitars, vocals, organ and percussion
Alan Shacklock is responsible for the string arrangements that underpin 'The Runaways'.
The cover is by Roger Dean

'This track was recorded "straight" with no overdubbing or electronic
trickery - the spontaneity and live feel are set off by Dick's comment
at the end!'
- Black Dog (Jesse Winchester) 08:03
- The Mexican (Alan Shacklock) 05:45
this track interpolates from "Per Qualche Dollaro in Piu" by Ennio Morricone
- he seems to be a favourite of the band - A Fistful Of Dollars appears
on the Babe Ruth album.

WELLS FARGO
* Repeat
Spent riding shotgun on the
Horex Stage
Headin' for the Mexican border
Shotgun movin' to the rhythm of the rage
Just to help to keep law and order
Sits right back just to takin' it easy
Drinks a shot of whisky
And it makes it mighty easy
You come hard once
You come hard twice
Neglecting keeping watch
Don't mind the sheriff's advice
*Riding Shotgun
Riding over land to the Rio Grande now
Shot right down from the rocks
above It brought Jake to his feet
His pants fell down
And acting like a clown
The bullets had him dancing
To the rock n' roll beat
Big Jake did the boogaloo too
Got lucky
He was quiet as a drunk
His aspirations ain't no more to you
He lies to one and all
*Repeat
The stage got near to the center
of town
And Jake gotta have his self a drink
He got to the bar and what he done
Any self-respecting bloke would hate champagne
ElI and me was dancin' to the sound of the blues
Her fella made her wobble
Right down to her shoes
Look at the stuff
But just don't get too near
Cause you're gonna get in trouble
Very soon dear
*Repeat
Taking law in hand to the Rio
Grande now
THE RUNAWAYS
Man on a side walk stone cold
He's carrying everyone's load
And a tear in his eye
Mirrors moon in black sky
His dreams had been building too high
Now he's finding he's lost everyway
Hope shattering one by one day
Don't you trust no one's heart
Cause they'll tear you apart
Then they'll laugh as you're runnin' away
The time has now come
Said the boy on the run
To the crowd as they all turned away
Don't you give me no hard luck I pray
Don't you give me more reasons to hate
Cause the Saints of New York
Have been acting too hard
Won't you clear out before it's too late
* The time has now come
Said the man with the gun
To the crowd as they all turned away
*Repeat
KING KONG No lyric
BLACK DOG
Black dog sniffed the plates
A steaming on the store
Kids ain't seen you home all day
You're a gentleman born to roam
Black Dog don't believe in sin
Think of where the Black Dog's been
Think of where he's been today
Have you seen the Black Dog's
teeth
Sharp like a knife
Have you seen him tear apart
A throat to take a life
Black Dog don't believe in sin
Think of where the Black Dog's been
Think of where he's been today
Have you seen the Black Dog's
eyes
Staring in the fire
Would not occur to him
To question your desire
Black Dog don't believe in sin
Think of where the Black Dog's been
Think of where he's been today
I've always had a fear
Of creatures cryin' in the dark
And every form of evil
Seems to bear an evil mark
Black Dog don't believe in sin
Think of where the Black Dog's been
Think of where he's been today
My man's lying beside me
And my Black Dog's at my feet
He keeps me from my wandering life
And he robs me of my sleep
Black Dog don't believe in sin
Think of where the Black Dog's been
Think of where he's been today
Now I don't know the Black
Dog's name
Or if he'll come when I call
How I ever got the Black Dog blues
I hemmed in from wall to wall
*Black Dog don't believe in
sin
Think of where the Black Dog's been
Think of where he's been today

THE MEXICAN
He's called Fernandez Livin' on a gun
Dreams of San Antana
Fighting in the sun
Drums so loud from outside
Makes it hard to dream
A rain is fallin' hard and fast
Makes it all seen real
Mornin' come mornin
He has got to have his share
Mornin', sad mornin'
Said he must be there
Mornin', sad mornin'
What a laugh I cried I cry
cry cried
Mornin', sad mornin'
Mexican Signor a pining
She call come on home
San Antana is losing
You'll be first to go
Sam Houston's laughing
Davy Crockett too
When Ana takes the Alamo
The first to go is you
Mornin' oh mornin'
I think you've gotta have
Mornin', sad mornin'
Heaven will be there
Mornin', sad mornin'
What a laugh and out loud
Ha ha ha ha ha
JOKER **
I said hey Cat you gotta move
out of here I gotta turn you on
Well now Rat don't you have no fear
Cause I'm lookin' for some dope
We'd better get it on
Catcher man said we gotta move out of here
More further on down the stairs
Well if they kick you out
Don't joke about it
Cause there ain't enough time to explain
*Joker, don't use me I've had
about enough of you
Joker don't abuse me I don't know, don't know what I can do
*Repeat
I told this Joker that
you looked quite easy
Why did you try to score again
That's what I did but all I found was a $5 deal
But you only ever wanted, wanted him I said to this Joker man
You gotta be stealin'
A quarter an ounce for a $ bill
He said if that's how you feel
Then you'd better not pay
'S alright, I'll pay on Friday, leave it on the windowsill
*Repeat
