Bo
Hansson produced a series of instrumental albums in the seventies then
went quiet. Lord Of The Rings is exceptional and well worth a listen.
The rest are less inspired but still good.
Bjorn Waller wrote in 2000:
There has been a reunited Hansson&Karlsson tour of Sweden this year.
I went to see them myself, and was amazed by the musicianship of these
guys. One organ, a drum kit, nothing else... and still it doesn't feel
like anything (bass, vocals, guitar, brass, whatever) is missing. Especially
astonishing considering that Jan Karlsson has spent the past 20 years
as a comedian and TV host...
Peo Berghagen told me that
Stockholm Records in Sweden were rereleasing the first Hansson & Karlsson
CD. It includes the "Monument" album, the a-side of "Man at the Moon",
one track from the live album "Rex" and one track from their first single.
It also includes a 16 page booklet with a new interview from February
1998. Full details here thanks to Michael
J. Cross.
We're having some trouble with
spellings for the names - on the new album Bo is referred to as Bosse,
I've had a report that Karlsson was spelling his name Karlzon and there
are other variations.
Bjorn Waller says "Bosse and Janne, are simply the familiar forms of their
names. Jan is also called Loffe for some reason. I think his surname is
spelt Karlsson or possibly Carlsson"
Erik Winnfors says: "I think that he changed the spelling of his
family name in the early
seventies when his major breakthrough as swedish actor came. (Karlsson
is a swedish Smith or Jones-name and the spelling with C is a little
less common). He got very familiar to the Swedish TV-audience for a
part in a TV-serie about the last world war, "Någonstans i
Sverige"
(Somewhere in Sweden"). He´s character's name was "Loffe",
that explains
that!"
Some related information is
available at Ture Sjolander's site and
Michael J Cross has some info about the newly released CDs of Magician's
Hat, Attic Thoughts, and Watership Down here
Hansson performed with Janne Karlsson in the
late sixties - here are at least some of the album titles from that time
- I don't have any further information or track listings - if anyone can
supply them I'd be happy to add them to the site.
Thanks to Michael J. Cross for the H&K
listings and for additional discography information on the Bo Hansson pages.
Michael also pointed out an interesting quote in the FAQ of the Jimi Hendrix
related 'Hey Joe' mail list, apparently Hendrix jammed with Hansson and
Karlsson in 1967.
