Released
on Making Waves Records in 1993. The Michael Chapman magic has gone - it's
official. This album is difficult to listen to. Michael's voice is now
thin, reedy and somewhat grating. The inspiration has obviously gone too
because he reprises Postcards of Scarborough and uses a traditional folk
song. Even the Chapman guitar isn't evident on this CD - this one is only
for hardened fans.
Ian Barnett disagrees with my criticism:-
I'd argue though that this album's worthwhile for the classic Fool In The
Night on its own- whether you prefer this version or the 'band' take on
Dreaming Out Loud is a matter of taste. A solo acoustic Postcards is nice to
have, so is a bit of trad folk , Falling From Grace is certainly pleasant
and Elinkine is a solid instrumental. For his first album in six years after
a heart attack it's at least a reasonable effort. If I was Q magazine I'd
give it three stars.
Thanks Ian, I'll listen to the album again.
