I
heard a track from this disc on the Raw Power program - I don't suppose
many others did because the program was on Channel 4 at something like
four in the morning. There was an expensive-looking video but I've never
seen it again. After a couple of years I spotted a copy in the racks at
HMV in Oxford Street and snapped it up - that was the last time I saw
the album. Obviously, the theme of the album is Egypt. The tracks tend
to be a bit samey, but the quality is pretty good, sort of in the same
vein as White Lion in a sort of Middle Eastern way...
Gypsy Re Beth told me: "RITUAL were formed in 1972 by myself as a three piece rock outfit with Phil Mason and John Gaster all pros with track records. We all are from London and knew each other from school. In 1980 we released the album "Widow" with the single "Burning" which was frequently played by Alan Freeman. I did lots of radio stuff including interviews with Tommy Vance who played the whole album to six million listeners on the world service. Further Albums "Gypsy" [1983] "Never Look Back"[1984] "Cry in the night"[1986] "Lady Night" [1987 and "Daughter of joy"[unreleased], and finally "Valley Of the Kings" [1993] with the single "Naisha" and video.Unfortunately John Gaster died in 2001 so I decided to wrap it up although I had already been working under my name for some years. All this material which was written by me will be coming out next year repacked under Gypsy Re Bethe. I have now released 3 singles and we still work as a three piece and its going fine."
