Nic Jones
This
album is very much in the same vein as Ballads And Songs, my particular
favourite is Napoleon's Lamentation - I hadn't heard any Napoleonic songs
until I started listening to Nic Jones. The Lass of London City is something
of a tour de force on the guitar - obviously something that Nic had to
practice - one of my friends asked him to play it at a gig some years after
the record was released and Nic didn't seem too keen somehow. The rest of the tracks are brilliant performances of traditional folk songs. Dance To Your Daddy is the only one I would take issue with, but that isn't Nic Jones' fault - it was that ruddy television series that used it as a theme tune - I've never been able to listen to it since.
