It's
strange that it's frequently my least favourite album that brings recognition
and success to an artist. It's certainly the case with this one. Steady
On and Fat City were absolutely stunning albums, the recordings were clear
and crisp and the presentation was absolutely wonderful, but they didn't
sell too well. A Few Small Repairs still has John Leventhal as co-writer
and producer, but the sound has changed - no longer as crisp and I thought
a bit over-produced. It seems that the majority disagree with me and this
is the album that brought Shawn 'overnight success' after eight years.
Having said that, the album does grow on you. I persevered and I've grown
to like it - but I still think that the first two were far better.
